Record label Ondine has released Tõnu Kõrvits’s CD „Moorland elegies“, where composer’s music is performed by Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir, Tallinn Chamber Orchestra and conductor Risto Joost. CD contains nearly an hour-long choir cycle „Moorland elegies“ on texts of Emily Brontë that was premiered by the same artists in October 2015 in Tallinn St. John’s Church. Tõnu Kõrvits: „„Moorland Elegies“ is a journey into the darkest, most mysterious corners of loneliness: to where one doesn’t dare to peek twice.“ The selection of poetry in „Moorland Elegies“ contains bright, sorrowful, dramatic, and divine scenes that form no coherent plot. There are only spiritual conditions characterized by a certain poetical abstraction, which develop through natural imagery and spatial impressions. The work was awarded the Cultural Prize of the Republic of Estonia in 2016.
