Annika Lõhmus

Annika Lõhmus (soprano) graduated from the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre with a bachelor’s degree in classical singing in 2004 under docent Anu Kaal, and a master’s degree cum laude in 2012 under Professor Nadia Kurem. Since 2001, Annika has been working as a singer in the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir.

Annika has performed as a soloist in several Baroque large-scale vocal works and cantatas, such as Bach’s St John Passion, Mass in B minor, Magnificat, Cantata no. 51, Händel’s Dixit Dominus, and Arvo Pärt’s Magnificat, Te Deum, Passio, etc.

Annika’s creative endeavours in recent years have run along parallel paths of music and literature. In 2017, the poetry collection Halo and the travel guidebook From a Passport to a Farewell Drink were published. The latter contains observations, advice and humorous experiences Annika has gathered of her colleagues during numerous trips abroad. In 2020, her debut novel Half Tones was published (by Varrak), set largely in the world of classical music. Annika has also published articles in various magazines (Estonian Woman, Music).

In her spare time, Annika likes to read science-fiction and fantasy, and listen to jazz.
