Danny Zhizhong Xie (tenor) is a conductor and singer from Singapore. Beginning with piano and violin at the tender age of four, Danny soon fell in love with choral singing in his adolescence years, and went on to pursue choral studies at Indiana University Bloomington, Jacobs School of Music, USA. He gained a Bachelor’s in Music Education (Choral) in 2013, with a major in piano, and two minors in conducting and ethnomusicology.
In Singapore, Danny worked as a choral conductor and music educator at multiple schools of all levels. More notably, he served as the assistant conductor and president of Raffles Singers, where he has contributed to the choir winning multiple Grand Prix awards in choral competitions in Europe. He has also been involved in multiple symphonic choral projects as singer and chorus master, performing alongside both national and overseas orchestras. Danny is also the executive director of Resonance of Singapore, a non-profit arts organisation helmed by Singapore’s first-ever professional vocal ensemble, The ROS Singers.
Inspired to deepen his knowledge as a choral conductor, Danny is now pursuing a Masters in Choral Conducting at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre (Prof. Toomas Kapten). From 2023 to 2024, he also studied at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm (Prof. Fredrik Malmberg). Danny is active in the choral scene of both Estonia and Sweden, having sung and guest conducted top-performing groups such as Tallinna Kammerkoor, HUIK!, Eric Ericsons Kammakör, Radiokören, Vokalharmonin, and more. In 2023, Danny was a top-five finalist at the 4th Juozas Naujalis International Competition for Choral Conductors in Vilnius, Lithuania. He is also currently serving as choral conductor of Kammerkoor Avis Animi.
Danny sings with the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir from the 2024/2025 season.
