The Helsinki Chamber Choir and the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir mark the anniversaries of three major composers in a joint programme that brings together two Grammy-Award-winning ensembles for the first time. 50 years after the death of Frank Martin, the choirs combine forces to perform his Mass for double choir, one of the great choral masterpieces of the 20th century. The concert opens with three expressive motets by Anton Bruckner, marking his 200th birthday. It also features a selection of choral pieces by the hugely influential Arnold Schönberg – who would have been 150 years old in 2024 – including a powerful and deeply felt setting of Psalm 130 (De profundis), his last completed work.

The Helsinki Chamber Choir is an internationally renowned professional choir, whose wide-ranging repertoire includes music from medieval times to the present day and it is particularly highly regarded for its work with new music. They have recorded for prestigious labels such as BIS Records, Alba Records, Toccata Classics, and ICSM Records. Together with its Artistic Director Nils Schweckendiek, it won a Grammy Award 2024 in the Best Choral Performance category for the disc Kaija Saariaho: Reconnaissance. Nils Schweckendiek has been the artistic director of the Helsinki Chamber Choir since 2007. He is dedicated to performing contemporary music and has conducted nearly 100 premieres. Since 2007 Nils Schweckendiek has been Artistic Director of the Helsinki Chamber Choir. He is also Professor of Choral Conducting at the Sibelius Academy of the University of the Arts Helsinki, and the Artistic Director of the Helsinki Music Centre Chorus.
