Marie Roos

Marie Roos (soprano) began her studies in classical singing at the Georg Ots Tallinn Music School under the supervision of Teele Jõks, and continued at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre where she earned a degree in classical voice in the Department of Classical Musical Performance in 2017. She studied at the Royal College of Music in London until 2020 under Professor Patricia Rozario OBE. She has studied musical theatre at the Guildford School of Acting in the United Kingdom. In 2022, she made her directorial debut with Rodgers’s musical The Sound of Music at the Saint Catherine’s Church in Tallinn.

In 2016, she made her opera debut in Henry Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas in the role of Belinda in the production by Stephan Jöris (Germany), which was nominated for the Estonian Theatre Award. In 2017, she performed for the first time as a soloist at the British Isles Music Festival in England, performing arias by Bach, Vivaldi and Caldara with the festival’s chamber orchestra and harpsichordist Robert Costin. A year later, her first full-length solo concert was held in Tallinn. In addition to Estonia, Marie has also given concerts in Denmark, Germany, Italy, Norway, Sweden and Finland. She has participated as a soloist in large-scale works, including Bach’s St Matthew Passion, St John Passion, Mass in B minor and cantatas, and has performed works by Vivaldi, Händel and other composers. She has worked with reputable conductors both in Estonia and abroad.

From 2022 to 2023, Marie was the soloist of the Bachfest concerts, singing arias by Bach, Vivaldi and Černohorský. She has performed at the Glasperlenspiel Music Festival and at the Pühalepa Music Festival, where she performed a baroque repertoire with the Tallinn Baroque Orchestra and the early music ensemble Cantores Vagantes.

Her voice can be heard on several records, including the album In the Beginning by Maria Faust and Kira Skov, which won two Danish music awards, including the award for best vocals of the year.

Marie has sung in various choirs, including the chamber choir Collegium Musicale and the Savonlinna Opera Festival Choir, and has provided vocal training for choirs of the Tallinn Secondary School of Science Choir Studio. Marie joined the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir in August 2023.
