International Collaboration with Concerto Copenhagen 2024-2026

The Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir begins a collaboration with Europe’s leading baroque orchestra, Concerto Copenhagen (CoCo), under the direction of Tõnu Kaljuste. Together, they will present a program featuring works by Arvo Pärt and Georg Friedrich Händel at major events in Estonia and various locations across Europe.

Concerts will take place in Estonia on the 25th of August 2024 at Tartu St. Paul’s Church as part of the main program of the European Capital of Culture Tartu 2024, and on the 2nd of September 2024 at St. John’s Church in Tallinn as the opening event of the Nargen Festival’s Pärt’s Days. In 2025, a tour in different European venues will follow.

The concert program “Pärt & Händel” creates a musical bridge between different eras, connecting the sound world of the 18th century with the most influential contemporary music. For a long time, the orchestra, together with the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir, has planned to perform not only early music but also the works of Arvo Pärt, whose first tintinnabuli compositions were inspired by early music and premiered using historical instruments.

As part of the collaboration, the same ensemble will record Arvo Pärt’s works for the Berlin Classics label, bringing a new dimension to the recording practice of Pärt’s music through the use of a baroque orchestra.

The multi-year collaboration between the representative ensembles of Denmark and Estonia will strengthen cultural ties between the two countries, support the development of professional music culture, and diversify the music scene in both countries. Your support will help make this possible.
