Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir has chosen Toivo Tulev as their composer in residence for the season 2004/2005. The contract includes the composing of a grandiose new composition which will be premiered by the EPCC with Paul Hillier conducting, in addition to performances of other works by the composer. The second recording of Baltic Voices (for Harmonia Mundi) will be released this summer and the CD includes “And then in silence there with me be only you” (2002) by Toivo Tulev.
Estonian composer Toivo Tulev (born 1958) was a central figure in the programs of the Estonian Music Days in April 2004. Tulev’s author’s concert at Niguliste church in Tallinn was presented by Vox Clamantis and Nyyd-Ensemble with Olari Elts conducting; other concerts at the festival also programmed premieres by Toivo Tulev; Estonian Radio has presented Tulev’s first personal album Be lost in the Call. Tulev’s Sans mesure for choir, strings and percussion was performed at the Tallinn Methodist Church by Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir and Tallinn Chamber Orchestra, with Risto Joost conducting.
